Linking people to God and to each other

Phil, Rachel & Zach Bowyer

               Bowyers

Phil and Rachel Bowyer facilitate a city-wide Network made up of representatives from the 150 initiatives that Phil and Rachel have met in eThekwini (Durban) during the last five years living and working in the city.  At three to six times a year people, projects and churches are all invited to central gatherings, where they can share and learn from each other and give each other support in their work. The Network provides a way to share resources and expertise, and a monthly newsletter keeps Network participants up-to-date with each other’s work as well as offering helpful articles, prayer requests and useful resources.

As a result of the relationships that have developed throughout eThekwini Soul Action has been able to identify the need to increase access to training, particularly on issues relating to Integral Mission and Community Mobilisation. They started a Centre of Excellence with the aim of increasing the capacity, competence and credibility of Christians as they reach out to the poor and marginalized in their community. Soul Action’s training offers courses that empower people to analyse the needs in their own community and to work out how to meet them with the resources they have; understand a Biblical perspective of justice and poverty; and learn how to work with children affected by HIV and Aids holistically.
